Stay active this summer!

Going to Texel with the whole family? Great idea! There’s plenty to enjoy for all ages. Choose from active & sporty, wellness, relaxation, watersports, or (peacefully) enjoying nature. Here are some tips for your summer holiday.

Active & Sporty

When you’re on Texel, the beach is a must. Had enough walking this past year? Try blokarting, rafting, or power kiting! Or challenge yourself at the Climbing Park Texel at Vakantiepark De Krim. Blokarting is easy to learn. You don’t need to be very sporty or super fit. After a short briefing, you’ll be racing your blokart along the beach. It's exciting and fast, yet safe. You do need some wind. Prefer something a bit calmer? Try power kiting. A skilled instructor will teach you the basics of kite flying and show you just how powerful the wind can be. Once you get the hang of it, you can fly a bigger kite and even try some tricks.

Wellness

Prefer relaxation and wellness? Then Texel’s unique wellness experience is a must-try: a wool bath! At the Spa Woolness of Hotel Texel in Eierland, you’ll step into a warm, healing, and relaxing bath filled with sheep’s wool. Yes, really—wool in the bath! Texel farmers used to use wool to ease their muscles and joints after long winter days of work. The lanolin in wool promotes skin healing. After an hour, you’ll feel completely relaxed. You can also combine the wool bath with massages or body treatments.

Beach and Sea

If you love to relax, Texel’s beach has plenty to offer. The vast North Sea beach stretches from De Hors in the south to the lighthouse in the north. Each beach entrance has its own character. And if you walk a bit to the left or right, you’ll likely have the beach almost to yourself. Lie back with a book or e-reader and enjoy the gentle waves. And a sun-soaked nap? Always a good idea!

Out on the Water

You can’t avoid the water on an island—thankfully! There’s lots to do on and in the sea. A boat tour from the Oudeschild harbor is highly recommended. Join a shrimp cutter, spot seals on the sandbanks, go fishing, or speed across the water in a fast RIB. Also fun are the mudflat walking tours with the TX10. You’ll discover what lives in the seabed. Bird Island Texel

Nearly 400 bird species can be found on our island. Some are just passing through, but many have chosen Texel as a permanent habitat. In the many nature areas spread across the island, you can spot all kinds of birds. More and more visitors are discovering how enjoyable birdwatching can be. Want to learn what to look for or which bird you’re seeing or hearing? Join a guided bird excursion with an expert. Although spring is the best birdwatching season, there’s still plenty to see in July. The Texel Bird Information Centre in De Cocksdorp offers tours for beginners and experienced birders. Tip: bring binoculars—but you can usually borrow them too.
