Summer events on Texel

July and August are traditionally the months when many people plan their summer holiday. No wonder that during this period, many events and activities take place on Texel. Here are some fun tips:

Cuddling lambs

You might think lambs are only born in spring. On Texel, that’s not the case. Births are spread throughout the year, so you can still cuddle lambs later in the year at Schapenboerderij Texel. You’ll also learn more about the Texel sheep, and there’s plenty for children to do outdoors. Various farm animals roam freely, and you can enjoy a pony ride. Almost every day there are sheep herding demonstrations with dogs.

Picnic in the “Bossie” on the Hogeberg

A great add‑on to a cycle trip: a picnic on the Hogeberg. You’ll find the “Bossie” near the maze, as locals call it. In this small wood, charming paths lead to a large bench atop the hill. Legend says there’s a big stone beneath the hill, the “English Steen,” extending under the North Sea to England. The seven steps up are known as the “Zeven Pannenkoeken” (Seven Pancakes). During hot weather, the Bossie remains pleasantly cool—a perfect picnic spot!

Havenvistijn in Oudeschild

Oudeschild is Texel’s harbor town—the home port of the fishing fleet and the place to get fresh fish. At the annual Havenvistijn, local fishermen showcase their craft. They explain fishing techniques, and you can see what’s caught in the North Sea at the fish table. You’ll be amazed by the variety! There are also demonstrations of traditional crafts, like net mending, “Spijkerbroek hangen,” and lots of music.

End of Summer Festival

Thankfully summer doesn't feel over yet, but the End of Summer Festival marks the traditional season finale. In De Koog’s hospitality venues and along the Dorpsstraat, DJs and live performances create a tropical, upbeat atmosphere. Music ranges from reggae to Dutch sing‑alongs.

Texel’s biggest event

The event with the greatest draw: the Texel beach. Dozens of kilometers of pristine white, soft sand await you. Sunbathing, playing volleyball, swimming, jogging, or whatever you feel like—you’re free to enjoy the outdoors on Texel’s beach. And… it’s free to enter! From Vakantiehuizen Texel, you can cycle to Paal 15 beach in just ten minutes. Curious for more fun activities? Check the VVV Texel website for a full range of options.
